Analysis of medicated lotions, ointments and creams are fairly routine and have been part of compendial monographs for decades. However, the analysis of medicated hydrogels is more recent and present their own unique challenges. Here we look at a case study of a medicated hydrogel and the analytical issues encountered during method development for an UHPLC chromatographic potency assay for the active metabolite, the prodrug, related substances and the preservative.
Learning Objectives:
recognize the potential pitfalls regarding the analysis of medicated hydrogels.
utilize analytical equipment to overcome these potential issues
develop and validate robust chromatographic methods for the analysis of medicated hydrogels
